“Bringing the horses out to the community is what we do.”
Freedom Zampaladus runs Urban Equestrian Academy in Leicester. With less than 1% of people working in the equestrian world coming from an ethnic minority background, Freedom is attempting to change the industry.
Working predominately with inner-city children and teenagers - some “who have never seen a horse before” - Freedom runs a mini bus shuttle to pick them up and take them to his stables where they learn skills such as riding, equine husbandry and understanding of horse behaviour.
As well as this, he likes to bring his horses into the city and ride around his local neighbourhood. His aim is to bring horses to people who have the least access to them, stopping for a chat with anyone who wants, and, in doing so, hopefully pass on some of his passion for these creatures
